collecting posters, be it of rock bands, concerts, events or whatever, allow you to show your affection for your favorites. however, the subject of the posters might not matter much if you have posters looking as good as these artistic pieces created by Knoxville-based artist Justin Helton. honestly, we don’t even know any of those acts listed as Helton’s clients but that doesn’t stop us from savoring his honest illustrations. Helton uses a blend of design, illustration, and typography for his masterpieces and the posters are then printed entirely by hand by the man himself. Continue Reading

(photos: Takanori Aiba) Takanori Aiba’s Bonsai Art(chitecture) | US$na | www.tokyogoodidea.com
bonsai, an ornamental tree of a miniature proportion, normally don’t appeal to non-flora lovers like us but there is a special breed of bonsai that managed to awe us. we were totally fixated on his works even though images were all we can see. these unique bonsai trees created by Japanese artist Takanori Aiba brings about a whole new bonsai art form that fuses Lilliputian architecture designs with the traditional bonsai. what’s more impressive is, the structures that he integrated into the bonsai are derived out of the pages of his imagination. in short, none of the buildings are real-life miniature replicas. he even dreamed up of a hotel created out of the iconic Michelin mascot, dubbed the Hotel de Michelin, which is currently displayed in his restaurant in Tokyo. New York-based photographer Dale May, who is best known for his commercial photography of celebrity portraits and print ads, has taken a slightly different route this time round with the LEGO Star Wars series. the most notable pair in this series, are perhaps the Coco Vader and the V3PO Louis Vuitton portraits. as the name suggests, both popular Star Wars characters are given a luxury brand twist with the Dark Sith branded with Louis Vuitton, backed by Coco Chanel, while the talkative android is branded with Coco Chanel, backed by the famous Louis Vuitton monogram design. both artworks are presented in silver c-print face mounted to an archival acrylic, backed with aluminum – a framing process that gives each photo a glossy finish. these prints are available in two sizes: 24″ x 24″ and 42″ x 42″ and will set you back at $2,200 and $4,200, respectively. click past the jump for a couple of larger images. (image: Charly Molinelli) Crashed Ferrari Table | US$na | www.molinellidesign.com
we have seen our fair share of weird furniture that makes us go pretty dope but this particular art furniture here is just not one of those. in fact, it will probably make any car enthusiast weep with sadness. created by designer Charly Molinelli for an undisclosed client, this particular coffee table here has a real crashed Ferrari, compacted and crammed inside it, and the rather cruel result is totally visible through its gleaming glass table top. as a car enthusiast myself, I can tell you this is some art that I would not quite appreciate but I have to commend on the overall table design. though, it could probably do a little more than a stuffed crashed Ferrari in it. don’t you think so? according to Molinelli, it cost about 10,000 euros to create this coffee table. seriously? a thrashed up prancing horse squeezed inside a coffee table still cost that much to make? i am all but amazed. hit past the jump for a small of gallery of this sad art for any car fanatics. (image: Umbra) Umbra Sticks Multi Hook | US$20.00 | www.umbra.com
we love art and we also love functional things. let’s be honest, who doesn’t? there is also one thing that we are fond of and that is to stow away things that are not in use, and only to deploy them when required. the Umbra Sticks Multi Hook does exactly all of the above: it has the artistic component presented in what looks like some randomly placed sticks, it functions to organize your coats, and when you don’t need them (the hooks), just flip them up and it functions as an art piece on your wall. it is essentially, an abstract sculpture and functional coat hooks combined, while not looking too overly designed. what’s not to love? oh, in case you are wondering… the Sticks Multi Hook has five flip-down hooks. the Umbra Sticks Multi Hook comes in black or white, and can be yours for a modest price of $20 a pop. since the news of the death of Apple’s former CEO and co-founder, Steve Jobs, the world has seen a host of tribute coming from fans from around the world. however, there’s no tribute that can be more appropriate than what Mint Foundry, a research team at London and New York based firm Mint Digital, has created. the team has created a portrait of Steve Jobs but this is no ordinary portrait, it is a portrait made up from a disassembled MacBook Pro. a fitting tribute to the man who, among other beautiful innovations, created the MacBook Pro and redefined how we look at mobile computing forever. started back in 2007, The Vader Project was DKE Toys’ initiative to ‘re-imagine’ the dark sith’s iconic helmet. nearly 100 of the 1:1 scale prop replica of Darth Vader helmets curated by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys were given out to participating artists, surrealist painters, designers to tinkle with. the resulting work of art was Vader’s helmets in very contrasting design, if not un-dark sith like. the helmets when on a travel exhibition starting from 2007, through to 2010, and finally they were put through an auction process. as we go full-on into the digital age, art form takes on a whole perspective. case in point: a hard drive with a capacity of 1-TB sits at one corner of Art 404 Gallery as an art installation. however, the highlight of this art installation is not the hardware itself but rather, it is the content within. it turns out that within this seemingly harmless external hard drive, it has $5 million ($4,971,760, to be exact) worth of stolen digital materials, including Adobe Font Collection, Adobe Creative Suites, 124 GB of music collection, more than 270 GB worth of ebook and among the many others. let’s face it. no one love to stare at a plain white wall. in this respect, we can either choose to decorate it with wallpaper that’s probably going to peel off in a few years or so, or we could hang a couple of these beautiful images of icons of the stage, screen and ring. among this exclusive selection of art collector Russell Blackmore includes sports legend Muhammad Ali, silver screen goddess Marilyn Monroe, and music icons such as Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Who – just to name a few. (image credit: Olaf Mooji)
on the first glance, you may think this is just a mobile sculpture of a giant brain fused into an used car but it is more than that. created by The Netherlands-based artist Olaf Mooji, the Braincar, as it is called, has a camera perched on top of the ‘brain’ that captures and stores images and videos as it travels around in the day, and as night falls, these footages are ‘remixed’ and projected from within this giant brain sculpture. the Olaf Mooji’s Braincar poses the question: what if the car itself has its own conscious? interesting thoughts there. don’t you think so?
